Portland is an anarch domain controlled by Baron DJ Ten Ton.
About Portland:
Portland started as a spot known as "the clearing",[5] which was on the banks of the Willamette about halfway between Oregon City and Fort Vancouver. In 1843, William Overton saw great commercial potential for this land, but lacked the funds required to file a land claim. He struck a bargain with his partner Asa Lovejoy of Boston, Massachusetts: for 25¢, Overton would share his claim to the 640 acre (2.6 km²) site. Overton later sold his half of the claim to Francis W. Pettygrove of Portland, Maine. Pettygrove and Lovejoy both wished to name the new city after their own home town; this was decided with a coin toss, which Pettygrove won.[6]
At the time of its incorporation on February 8, 1851 Portland had over 800 inhabitants,[7] a steam sawmill, a log cabin hotel, and a newspaper, the Weekly Oregonian. By 1879, the population had grown to 17,500.[8]
Portland's location, with access both to the Pacific Ocean via the Willamette and the Columbia rivers and to the agricultural Tualatin Valley via the "Great Plank Road" through a canyon in the West Hills (the route of current-day U.S. Highway 26), gave it an advantage over nearby ports, and it grew quickly.[9] It remained the major port in the Pacific Northwest for much of the 19th century, until the 1890s, when Seattle's deepwater harbor was connected to the rest of the mainland by rail, affording an inland route without the treacherous navigation of the Columbia River. During this time, corruption in the government allowed for some very unsavory activities to go on as well: "white slavery", specifically including the abduction of men to be used as forced labor on sailing ships, was so common that a network of underground tunnels, formerly used to transport goods from the river to nearby hotels and bars, was coopted to accommodate the practice. (See the Portland Underground, also known as the "Shanghai Tunnels.")[10] The first known reference to Portland as "The City of Roses" was made by visitors to an 1888 Episcopal Church convention, the nickname growing in popularity after the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition where Mayor Harry Lane suggested that the city needed a "festival of roses"[11] The first Portland Rose Festival was held two years later, and remains the city's major annual festival a century later.
Portland By Night
Portland was once a conservative and quiet Camarilla city ruled by Finneas Miles. It might have stayed that way if not for the accidental embrace of DJ Ten Ton. DJ had just returned disillusioned from the Korean War and was not in the mood to bow and scrape to a Prince just because he was a caitiff. DJ Ten Ton. After a hostile encounter with the caitiff, Prince Finneas Miles sent his sheriff to make an example out of this rogue caitiff. DJ Ten Ton not only staked the sheriff, but dragged him back to the court and ripped off his head and then went about his business.
The legend of the caitiff that stood up to the Prince grew. Caitiff started arriving nightly to support their new hero. The harpies began to whisper that Finneas Miles lost control.
To appease his primogen, Finneas Miles started crucifying caitiff. Finneas Miles called in every boon he possessed to garner support from his allies and had a potent mob awaiting DJ Ten Ton. Using skills learned in the army, DJ trained a small gang of loyal thugs and killed the Prince.
He didn’t want to be Prince so he declared Portland a free city. It lasted a few weeks until another Camarilla Prince was declared with the support of an archon. DJ Ten Ton realized that he would never be left alone until there was some sort of power structure in Portland. He organized the anarchs into gangs and made a deal with the Setite elder Jakeria Lee. Together, they killed off the remaining Camarilla vampires in Portland.
And then, DJ Ten Ton did the unthinkable. He organized the gangs into political parties and held free elections. DJ Ten Ton was elected as Baron of Portland. Every ten years, he holds new elections and always wins by a landside. The city has transformed into an artist community that exchanges free ideas.
Of course, some say that not everything is as rosy as appearances would have you believe. In exchange for her support, DJ Ten Ton granted Jakeria Lee domain for her new temple. Portland has become a base of operations for the entire Setite clan in North America. Most of the Portland residents think that the Setites are amusing, but mostly harmless. Some even listen to their sermons for entertainment.
In the last few years, the city seems to have grown a bit colder. The homeless population has expanded. Some say that DJ Ten Ton is losing sight of the big picture and starting to think of himself as a Prince. The anarchs in California growl privately that Portland needs to do more to support the cause, but they don’t want to tarnish the reputation of the caitiff that saved Portland. The rest of the anarchs think of Portland as Utopia and turn a blind eye to the snakes in the garden.
The Giovanni family has also made several inroads into this city. The Anarchs in general are very accepting to anyone that's willing to make appearances of letting other go about their business in peace. Aside from Los Vegas, Portland contains one of the largest populations of Giovanni in the western half of the United States. Matteo Giovanni is the considered the family head.
DJ Ten Ton is thought of as one of the most dangerous vampires in the world and yet the Inner Council fears that putting him on the Red List would sear his name forever into legend.
